Italy Education Types

- Graduate Degree: Laurea Magistrale: The duration of study depends on the course taken, with medicine or paramedical science taking at least six years and law five years. Aside from these exceptions, the typical duration of a bachelor degree in Italy is three or four years. The Laurea Magistrale degree, which is equivalent to a Master of Science in the European university system, is obtained after two years of graduate studies and aims to provide rigorous, advanced training in specific sectors.
- Postgraduate Degree (PhD): Dottorato di Ricerca: The duration of study depends on the course taken. The PhD degree is the highest level of university education and requires that candidates pass a comprehensive examination and complete original research leading to a dissertation. The program lasts at least 3 years.One can get an extension for more years to complete and submit the thesis work, after that the candidates are awarded PhD.
- Specialising Masters and Continuing Education Programs: For specialised masters and continuing programs the duration of study also depends on the course taken. Some universities also offer a specialisation or postgraduate degree course aimed at increasing students’ professional education, which is often called 1st and 2nd level university Master’s Degrees.Continuing education system is also same as specialised master courses, but the eligibility criteria is different.
