NEET-UG is one of the toughest medical school entrance exams administered in India. Previously, the NEET exam was administered by the CBSE. However, starting in 2019, the National Examination Agency (NTA) administers the exam for MBBS, BDS, Ayush Course, and Veterinary Medicine admissions. The full form of NEET is – the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. According to the Indian government, eligibility for NEET is a prerequisite for studying medical courses in India and abroad.

Candidates should understand the admissions process, the pattern of the exam, and how many times the NEET exam is conducted in a year. It is one of the toughest national-level exams in India.

NEET exam is compulsory for Indian/Foreign medical aspirants seeking admission to an Indian Medical College.

  • General age limit: You must be 17 years old at the time of registration/during admission into the MBBS program.
  • Qualification: NEET eligibility criteria for the 2025 exam remain the same as it was in past years. A candidate who passed his/her 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as one of the subjects can appear for the NEET exam.
  • Score: 50% marks in 10+2 are required for candidates belonging to the general category and 40% marks are required for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC, etc.)
  • Conditions: Candidates who appeared for their 10+2 exam, but have not yet passed can also apply for the NEET exam 2025, but their admission will be completed when they verify their 12th-grade exam scores during the admission.

Exam Pattern

NEET is a one-step entrance exam that grants admission to medical degree programs nationwide. All accreditations to JIPMER and AIIMS under the NMC Act incorporated within this NEET exam and above all trials were eliminated.

Understanding the NEET 2025 exam pattern at an early stage is important in raising the level of exam preparation. The NEET exam specifies details, such as exam type, language, duration, question types, official scoring scheme, and the NEET 2025 exam syllabus. NEET-UG 2025 will be held in a pen-and-paper format, which is  OMR-based, conducted by NTA on a single day in a single shift. The candidates will have to attempt 180 questions in 180 minutes, i.e. in 3 hours. Candidates are asked multiple-choice questions, preferably 12th standard, from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. According to the NTA, 23,33,297 candidates appeared for the NEET 2024 exam, out of which 9,98,205 were male, and 13,34,940 were female candidates. The total number of registered candidates was 24,06,079. The result was revised and released on July 26, 2024.  According to the revised merit list, as many as 13,15,853 candidates qualified for NEET 2024 out of 23,33,162 test takers. 

The cutoff value of the NEET exam 2024 for the general category is 720-162, for SC/ST/OBC category is 161-127, for the general- PH category is 161-144, for the SC/OBC- PH 143-127, and the ST PH category, it is 142-127.
